Fall 2025

Fall 2025

Barrett Miss 775 327 PW with her S Armstrong bull calf. Dam of Barrett Real Deal. 775 is a powerful and feminine Pay weight daughter from a full sister to Barrett Walt. Walt was used extensively in many of our commercial AI herd projects. Our customers used him for the females he produced and the incredible longevity in those cattle. 775 brings so much of our operation into both sides of her pedigree. Calving Interval 7 @ 366 and set up to flush again this fall.

SUMMER 2025

SUMMER 2025

The bulls we raise start from her.
See our Cow Herd page and the Bull Development page under the BC Program for more information.

A beautiful July rain followed by an engagement for these two. We are beyond blessed!

Toured through the cowherd at Bruin Ranch a few years ago, beautiful set of females. Thank you, Joe, for highlighting Barrett 5254. He is out of our 4004 cow, as near perfect a cow as you could ever want, with an obvious influence on longevity. A full sister to 4004 from the one flush we got off of the 2526 dam, is ready to calve this fall, 7 @ 368.

The 2025 Bull Sale is in the books, and we want to sincerely thank each of you for your support of our program! A special thank you to the Nikkel family for allowing us to sell our bulls beside theirs at their ranch facility. The most important part of this industry is the people, and we are surrounded by some good ones!

Give Payden or Gene a call on these AI sires. We bred heavily to 0428 in commercial herds last year, have some Real Deal’s on the ground and bringing Safeway in more this spring. We used all 3 of these sires this past fall in our registered herd.

MARCH 2024

MARCH 2024

It is a beautiful day for a bull sale! Thank you for your interest over these past few weeks, we’ve enjoyed visiting with you all. Please give us a call if you have any questions and we hope to see you soon!

Frosty start to the day at the bull pasture, last morning before we haul them to the sale facility.

Barrett Miss 217 838 BC, another deep and powerful Barricade daughter.

Fall 2023 heifer calf from Justification and Barrett Miss 011 642 RF, dam of Lot 61. 011 continues to impress us and moves up on our watch list.

First-calf heifer with a Barrett 0428 772 RF-sired calf, and another example of the calves customers are getting on this sire. Rocking A Ranch, the Ardery family, bought this bull in our 2023 sale. He is a Rainfall out of our 772 cow, dam to lot 69 in the 2024 sale. 0428’s are coming nice, and although just babies, we are very happy with what we are seeing. Excited to see what 0428 continues to do with Rainfall and Payweight combined.

We get the best help for preg-check!

70 DAYS TO SALE DAY

70 DAYS TO SALE DAY

The bulls have been out on grass since 2 weeks post-weaning and will continue up until the week of the sale. The bulls are brought along at a slower pace with limited supplementation and we continue to receive good feedback from our customers on how they hold up.

MOTHERING ABILITY

For years, we have scored each cow at calving on mothering ability… and have culled on this trait alone. There are no excuses in this area.

The Net Present Value dam pictured goes back to the great 5H11 cow is shown having just calved her 13th calf this fall with no misses.

FALL 2023

FALL 2023

Payden has been using this super nice young gelding from Diamond S Quarter Horses, Olsburg, Kansas, this past year.

Happy Hearts Working

Happy Hearts Working

We always enjoy hosting our friends from Happyheartsworking.org. The Barrett Cattle Pumpkin Patch was a hit for the 2nd season in a row! Great folks with absolute joy in everything they do, a good reminder for all of us.

Customer Herd Visits

Customer Herd Visits

It had been a few years since we were east of the Mississippi to visit customers. Gene was able to make stops in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia recently. Pictured is a 4404 son out of one of our 2013 Barretts Iron Mike daughters.

We try to get out into our customers’ herds either as we are AI-ing or on herd visits throughout the year, and continue to be encouraged when they tell us to ‘stay the course’ in our bull development. We love hearing that the bulls held their condition and maintained in every environment.

2023 Spring AI

2023 Spring AI

Finishing up the 2023 spring AI season this week. 30 years of working alongside the best cattlemen and most progressive operations in the nation, we enjoy it just as much now as when we began.

March 28, 2023

Sincere thanks to all who showed their support to our family this past Friday. We are thankful for your trust in us and in our program. Special thanks to Mill Brae Ranch for the help in getting our first joint bull sale up and running!

Gene has always made short work of getting bulls delivered and this year is no exception. These bulls are back home from the sale facility as he begins out-of-state deliveries. It was a beautiful evening to get through them one more time.

As sale season begins to wrap up, we wish our fellow breeders success and safety in their upcoming sales. We cannot say enough how thankful we are to be in this industry and the friendships within.

Had a good weekend to freeze brand this set.

We created a pumpkin patch and fall trail for our friends at Happy Hearts this week. Several years ago, we met Carole with Happy Hearts Working near Bonner Springs. Carole created a model for assisting young adults with Down Syndrome to transition from high school to the working environment by establishing partnerships with local businesses. Any day they come out to visit us is a great day for all of us. We love the joy and the interest they have in our work and in our animals. Blessed to have HHW in our life and call them friends. Please visit the website to see the work and career choices. Happyheartsworking.org

September 2022

September 2022

We have always put an emphasis on mothering ability at calving and score accordingly. We are at the tail end of calving and excited to watch these sire groups grow.

June 2022

June 2022

The 2023 sale bulls on native grass this past summer. There is no doubt we could achieve heavier weaning and yearling weights, but we have chosen not to push the bulls and instead let them develop and grow at a slower pace. This is our personal experience, but we have found that this method of development will provide our customers with bulls that will last longer.

The Trademark Angus Female.

The Trademark Angus Female.

We believe that in the Angus breed, there is room for different areas of focus. Ours continues to be the production of the trademark Angus Female. Sound, moderate, fertile, with longevity, good disposition, and mothering ability. It takes persistence and discipline… and it isn’t always the easiest path, but through our strict-culling protocol, we are gaining every year.

Happy Thanksgiving 2018!

All American Beef Battalion

All American Beef Battalion

We were honored to help the Kansas Livestock Association serve 250 steak dinners through the donation of The All-American Beef Battalion to those serving in the refueling division of the Air Force at Forbes Field. Bruce Conrardy, of the AABB and manager of Brookover Ranch Feed Yard, puts a lot of time into making this happen for those serving in the military. The appreciation and gratitude toward Bruce and his All American Beef Battalion team was overwhelming. Getting to tour the refueler that will head out this week was a nice surprise! Go to www.steaksfortroops.com to learn more on this very worthwhile mission.
